Showreel - Projects 2022
A quick look at some video projects made by Tobias Venus in 2022

PAX Aus 2022
Social Marketing Campaign
Client: ReedPOP
Role: Director, Producer, Camera, Editor
After three years the PAX Aus convention returned to the MCEC and myself and the Those Wizards team returned to head the creative video strategy. This year the focus was on capturing as much action as possible. See some highlights of the event below.

Tech Finder
YouTube and TikTok Channel (Jan 2021 - present)
Client: Finder
Roles: Everything!
Designed as part of a venture to expand Finder's reach into social video platforms, "Tech Finder" is Finder's take on the tech-review YouTube channel. Tech Finder is hosted and produced entirely by me in my Melbourne home studio. Below is one of my personal favourite videos from the channel but I encourage you to check out more and subscribe on YouTube.

Splendour in the Grass
TV show + Social Videos (2016 - 2022)
Client: ABC TV and Triple J
Role: Camera Operator, Editor
For the past four years I have been sent to cover music festival, Splendour in the Grass, for both Triple J and Rage.
The footage I captured was used for both social media content and for Rage's coverage of the live sets in the Splendour in the Grass special.

PAX Online - We are at home!
Social Advertisements (2020)
Client: ReedPOP
Role: Director, Producer, Camera, Editor
In 2020 PAXAus as a live convention was cancelled and merged with its international counterparts to create a digital gaming convention named PAX Online. While these conventions were a global effort, I was tasked with creating an advertising campaign purely for the Australian fans of the show. These ads riff off the original pre-pandemic ad we created for this year's event which repeated the tagline - "PAXAus welcome home."
Good Game: Spawn Point
TV Show (2020)
Client: ABC TV
Roles: Producer, Director and Writer
Between March and April 2020 I wrote and produced a number of segments for Good Game Spawn Point. This included two studio tours, a number of reviews and some comedic sketches.

PAXAus 2019
Social Marketing Campaign (2019-2020)
Client: ReedPOP
Role: Director, Producer, Camera, Editor
In this project, myself and the team at Those Wizards devised a social media marketing strategy that incorporated documentary-style story telling as a way for convention attendees, and those who missed out, an additional avenue to engage with and explore Australia's biggest gaming convention. The project, encompassing over 21 individual videos most of which were created on-site, generated tens-of-thousands of engagements across the PAXAus social media channels, and remains one of my proudest achievements to date.

SUPERGROUP
Live music video (2019 - 2020)
Client: Georgia Mooney and Giant Dwarf
Role: Camera
Hosted by Georgia Mooney (All Our Exes Live in Texas), SUPERGROUP brings together Australia's favourite songwriters and puts them on one stage. Each show had the musicians play each other's songs together in between unscripted discussions.

Key Change
Documentary (Dec 2018 - March 2019)
Roles: Camera
Key Change is a documentary about the developmental benefits of music on young minds.
The documentary is currently in post-production and is officially backed by Documentary Australia Foundation, Opera Australia and the Sydney Opera House.

NERF Advertisements
TV commercial & Social Video (September 2018)
Client: Hasbro & Cartoon Network
Roles: Director, Producer, Editor, B Camera, Animation
This project , comprised of 4 social videos and 5 TV commercials, aimed to showcase a new range of NERF products being used in real-life play.
The videos are mostly made up of unscripted play with real fans of the blasters. Due to this we approached the shoot as if it were documentary rather than an ad to emphasise the idea that this is what playing with the toy can really be like.

The CheckPoint Series
Webseries (June 2017 - April 2018)
Client: CheckPoint
Roles: Director, Producer, Editor, B Camera
The CheckPoint series is a crowdfunded 16-part webseries that uses video games as a conduit to discuss mental health issues and point viewers to any help they may need.
The series was filmed in Sydney, Melbourne, Seattle and Los Angeles and features interviews with many respected gaming industry professionals.
The series was invited to appear at the Game Developer's Awards inaugural film festival at San Francisco in 2018.

Good Game
TV Show (2016)
Client: ABC TV
Roles: Producer, Director, B Camera, Editor
In its final year, I was employed as a field producer at ABC's TV show about video games - Good Game. During this time I produced their first story on a non-digital game and multiple stories on under-represented people working in the Australian gaming scene.
In July of 2016 I was asked to series produce the spin-off series focused on competitive gaming - Well Played.
Finder: The Lowdown
Webseries (2018 - 2019)
Client: Finder
Roles: Camera, Editor, Audio
The Lowdown are a series of short informational videos that explain sometimes complicated financial concepts by comparing them to other everyday activities.
It uses a mixture of top-down stop motion and live action to deliver a colourful, engaging and easy to digest piece of content.

Nelune Foundation
Video package broadcast at fundraising event (July 2017)
Client: The Nelune Foundation
Role: Camera Operator
The 2017 Feature Documentary for the Nelune Foundation Lilac Ball, featuring interviews with patients from Darlinghurst's Nelune Centre, and Randwick's Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre about the impact of the foundation's facilities on patients and families ongoing cancer journeys.

AFL Kids YouTube
YouTube Channel (2018)
Client: AFL Kids
Role: Director, Camera, Editor
In mid 2018 Sydney based production company Marquee Studios approached me to head a re-brand of the AFL kids YouTube channel.
The initiative targeted 6-12 year old YouTube viewers in Australia and the US, connecting them with their favourite AFL stars who would appear in fun situations often seen on YouTube but never before in AFL related spaces .
Overall the re-brand was a great success with both of the three month targets achieved in under two months: reaching over 1 million total views and doubling subscribers from just over 2 thousand to 4.

Quakecon at Home: Cooking Shows
Pre-recorded twitch.tv series (2020)
Client: Bethesda
Role: Camera
In these hour long segments for the online event QuakeCon at home, Bethesda's ANZ social team attempt to create a number of dishes from their official cook books for Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

One Nation: The Animated Series
Web-series (2020)
Roles: Co-creator, Writer, Animator, Editor
Created as a way for myself and some old friends to reconnect by writing comedy during the coronavirus lockdowns, One Nation has quickly grown into a fully fledged series, with plenty more episodes on the way. Just be warned, it's full of bad language and even worse jokes.
